Roster Structure & Player Placement
How Rosters Work at the Indy Eleven Pro Academy
Roster placement is fluid and based on development, readiness, and long-term progression within a professional pathway.
For this reason, rosters published on our website are organized by birth year, rather than reflecting fixed team assignments.
Pro Academy Roster Model
Players are selected into the Indy Eleven Pro Academy, rather than being assigned to a single, fixed team roster. This approach allows the coaching staff to place each player in the most appropriate competitive environment to support long-term development and progression.
Roster placement decisions are made to align each player with the environment that best supports growth, rather than strictly adhering to chronological age or static team designations.
As a result, roster selections may vary from week to week and match to match, based on developmental objectives, training performance, player availability, and competitive needs.
Competition Groups & Age Placement
Within the Pro Academy, players are eligible for selection across seven age groups of competition. Player placement is determined by a combination of developmental needs, readiness, and competitive demands.
Players may be selected to compete with an older age group when it is developmentally appropriate and supports continued progression. In certain cases, players may also be eligible to compete with a younger age group when identified as biological late maturers, ensuring an environment that supports long-term development.
This flexible structure allows players to be appropriately challenged while remaining aligned with the academy’s professional development standards.
Professional Pathway Opportunities
Pro Academy players may be eligible for selection to the Indy Eleven senior team in the USL Championship and U.S. Open Cup through USL Academy contracts.
USL Academy contracts provide players the opportunity to train and compete within the senior professional environment at a young age, while maintaining NCAA eligibility. These experiences are designed to support long-term progression within the professional pathway.
